Organic Gardening

On the south-west side of beautiful Mt. Rainier in Washington state, lies the small town of Eatonville. This is where Red Barns & Birch calls home. We are a Backyard  Organic Gardening family learning the basics of Organic gardening and Home Canning. We expanded the garden last year and hope to do it again this year. I LOVE all squash and they take up LOTS of room. We are learning every day, JOIN US!

Chicken Raising

Raising chickens in the backyard can be entertaining AND profitable. We enjoy our hens and they are an important part of our family and garden environment. We eat and sell the eggs, we also amend our soil with the plentiful fertilizer that they produce. Come meet our hens Margret & Matilda, our 6 year old Easter eggers, Meredith, Ozzie, Nugget, Chipmunk, the 4 Wyandottes and K.F. & Felicia, the 2 Barnevelders.

Bucket Gardening

Although I am not so sure if gardening in a 5 gallon bucket falls into the organic category, it does allow for people wishing to grow fresh veggies in a limited space, the luxury of doing so.  I always say to just do the best you can do! If that is using a bucket on the patio, then DO IT! We are lucky enough to no use any chemicals on our yard, But I will not fault those who do. I am more for the fresh veggies vs. the organic veggies.

Merriam-Webster definition of Organic: Adj. of, relating to, yielding, or involving the use of food produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides.
